The proposed construction of the headquarters for Inomo Sub County in Kwania district has suffered a setback due to a bitter land wrangle.  The sub-county lost its headquarters last year following the creation of Inomo Town Council.

The Town Council took over the Sub County headquarters prompting the Sub County leadership to look for land elsewhere. Although, the government disbursed Shillings 50 million as a startup fund for the establishment of the new administrative unit, the Sub County leaders have failed to secure land to host the headquarters.

In September 2020, the sub-county authorities resolved to construct the sub-county headquarters on part of the 15-acre piece land hosting Aninolal Farm in Abedmot parish. This triggered protests led by 25-year-old Junior Anger, a resident of Abedober Village, saying the land in question belongs to his family and the matter is before Aduku Grade I Magistrate Court.

Speaking to URN on Sunday, Anger claimed that the sub-county leadership illegally trespassed on the customary land he inherited from his grandfather in 2012 and established a market on it claiming it would be temporary but went ahead to construct there toilet facilities.

He says that through his lawyers of Makmot Kibwanga and Co Advocates he wants the sub-county authorities to remove the illegal structures erected on his land and pay him general damages worth Shillings 200million within two weeks.

Jenifer Otyeka, the Inomo Sub County Chief says that they are still pursuing the court case after attempts to settle the matter outside court hit a dead end. She noted that they are stuck on where to build the Sub County headquarters despite having money on their account.

Geoffrey Alex Ogwal, the Kwania District LC V Chairperson revealed that they are embroiled in a number of serious land disputes. He said the 35-acre land hosting the district headquarters at Wipolo in Aduku Town Council and the last hosting Aduku seed school land in Aduku Sub County among others are under contention.

Background:

Found in Abedober Village, Aninolal Farm seats on 500 acres of land. The land hosts over 3000 residents from Ajok and Abedmot parishes. The local community donated the land to Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries in the early the 1960s for the establishment of cooperatives. However, the project collapsed, prompting residents to repossess the land.
