Gulu police are holding
a landlord in connection to the death of his South Sudanese tenant. Martin
Kitara was picked up over the weekend over the death of Deng Bol Bia, a police
detective who was renting his premises in Kanyagoga A parish in Bardege
Division.
Deng reportedly fell in
a pit latrine he was using on Friday and died instantly. Moses Ogwang, the
Community Liaison Officer at Gulu Central Police Station, says Kitara was picked
up for failing to ensure the safety of his tenants by constructing a permanent
pit latrine.
He says Kitara faces
charges of gross negligence leading to the death of a person under his care.
A postmorterm report indicates that Deng died from chocking.
