Paul Bukenya, the Senior Communications Officer with the Electoral Commission says voting was delayed because of late arrival of the first five voters to witness opening of the ballot boxes He also revealed that there was some interference by weather due to early morning drizzles.
Polls opened in Kaabong district for the Woman MP as early as 7:00 am but voting delayed in most
polling stations due to late arrival of voters.
The election follows the resignation of Rose Lilly Akello who opted represent the people of the newly created Karenga
district which was carved out of Kaabong.
Kaabong by-election has attracted two candidates that include Christine Nakwang
Tubo of the ruling National Resistance Movement, NRM Party and the main
opposition Forum for Democratic Change, FDC Party, Judith Adyaka Nalibe.
At Biafra, Kaabong Central and Police Primary School Polling Stations, polling
officials had to wait up to 7:30 am for five voters to be able to open the

According to Linos Okori Lima, the Karamoja Regional Elections
Officer, distribution of polling materials started at 4:00 am two distant sub-counties
of Kamion and Morungole while other polling stations especially Town Council
received materials around 7:00 am.
Kaabong District has 130 Polling Stations with 40, 128 voters. Security is
tight and each sub-county is manned by district registrars drawn from different
districts within and outside Karamoja.
Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the FDC Secretary-General is overseeing the elections on
behalf of the party while Sirian Bagamba, the Principle Elections Officer for
NRM is representing the ruling party.
