LC 1 Chairperson in Custody Over Murder of Kagadi Woman

Sunday is accused together still with others still at large of raiding Nsungwa’s home in the wee hours of Tuesday morning and hacking her to death on allegations of practising witchcraft.

A local council chairperson in Kagadi district is in trouble for alleged murder. Moses Sunday, the LC1 Chairperson of Kabayaga village in Mairirwe parish Bwikara sub-county is locked up in connection to the brutal murder of 64-year-old, Gorret Nsungwa.  

Sunday is accused together with others still at large of raiding Nsungwa’s home in the wee hours of Tuesday morning and hacking her to death on allegations of practising witchcraft. The deceased’s children found her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood this morning. 

The deceased’s son, Adolf Amanya, says that Sunday had severally threatened to kill his mother in the past, adding that he convened several village meetings with the aim of banishing his mother from the village. 

He wonders why the LC I chairman who is a leader could lead a mob to kill his mother, saying that justice should prevail on all those who participated in the murder of his mother. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson has confirmed the arrest and detention of the Chairperson as they continue hunting for the remaining suspects.

According to Hakiza, the suspect who is in custody at Kagadi central police station will be arraigned before court for murder once police investigations are complete. The deceased’s body is lying at Kagadi health center IV mortuary pending post-mortem.
