The LCI Chairperson for Nyenje Village, Goma Division in Mukono
Municipality Edward Kabombo and 15 others are on the run for allegedly slashing food crops belonging to Judith Kizza, a 77-year-old widow.
Kabombo and the team cut Kizza’s banana, coffee, cassava,
fruits and sweet plantains on plots of land close to 2 acres intending
to evict her.
Mukono Divisional Acting Police Commander Ismael Kifude says that the other
group on the run includes the family of the late Byekola Muwonge, a brother to
late Samuel Wamala, Kizza’s husband and Ronald Bizibu.
Richard Bwabye, the Deputy RDC says that he has directed the police
to investigate all the illegal activities on the land and make arrests of
the suspects in connection with crimes committed.

According to Bwabye, his office held a meeting with some of the
family members of the late Byekola, who claimed that the old woman was
illegally settling on the land.
“The people knew that the old woman had no title on land, so they thought they could
evict her and sell off the land. However, our office was able to establish that
she genuinely got the land from her late husband Samuel Wamala.” Bwabye says.
Kizza says that she is scared of staying at home alone fearing for her life
when the suspects are on the run.

Derrick Bukenya, a resident condemned the actions of the Chairperson. He says
the old woman is known by the community as a peace-loving person, who has lived
on the land for many years.
