The Mubende Chief Magistrate Court has remanded the Butoloogo
Sub County LCIII Chairperson Reuben Mukiza Mutabaazi for assaulting a Uganda
Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) officer.
Mutabaazi was on Wednesday arrested and charged for assaulting Maj. Fred Kasozi who is
attached to Mubende Rehabilitation Center over a land wrangle.
It is alleged that Mutabaazi confronted Kasozi while at Butoloogo police post
where he had gone to record a statement regarding the land dispute. The two have been embroiled in a dispute over an eight-acre
piece of land belonging to two orphans who are relatives to Maj. Kakooza.
On Thursday Mutabaazi appeared before Mubende
Chief Magistrate William Komakech. He denied the charges and was then remanded
to Kitalya Prison until July 29.

According to Kakooza, for more than four years, Mutabaazi has been making
attempts to grab the land from the two daughters of his late uncle John Kakooza
at Kisambula Kanyogoga in Butoloogo sub-county without success.
Kakooza is demanding that Mutabaazi be ordered to cover his treatment costs.
