The Police in Soroti have re-arrested Peter
Ebau, the LCIII Chairman of Awaliwal Sub County.
Ebau who was first arrested on May 19, 2024, was released on
Police Bond after presenting a birth certificate indicating that the girl whom he
allegedly defiled and impregnated was above 18 years.
But Ebau’s freedom was short-lived after investigations indicated that the birth certificate had been forged. The document had purportedly been issued by the catholic church in Katakwi District.
The Parish Priest of St. Pancras Toroma Catholic Church,
Rev. Fr. Edmond Okela said that the birth certificate that the church issued
indicating the girl’s date of birth in 2008 had been tampered with and the year
amended to 2005.
The Police officers who initially
indicated that they were still investigating the matter arrested Ebau on Wednesday
afternoon and arraigned him in court.
The officer in charge of criminal investigations in Soroti district, Tom Richard Ojok told
our reporter that the suspect had been paraded in court.
“He has been on police
bond and when he reported today, we had him rearrested and produced to court
since his file is ready,” Ojok said on the phone.
Although our reporter saw Ebau being escorted to Soroti Prison, we couldn’t verify the charges that have been preferred against him.
But the Soroti City West Police Commander, Mohammed Rashid Byanzi told one of the
journalists in Soroti that Ebau will be returning to court on Friday.
