LDUs batter 65-year Old Man to Death in Oyam District

It is alleged that the LDUs, who were around six in number and were stationed at Kamdini police station went to Amati Trading Centre in the evening to disperse the crowded who all took off leaving behind Ogwang who was then badly battered.

Local Defense Unit -LDU officers have battered a 65-year old man to death in Oyam district.

The LDUs were reportedly enforcing curfew, a presidential directive to stop the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The deceased was identified as Francis Ogwang Munu, a resident of Amati village, Juma parish, Kamdini Sub County. He died on Saturday night at a private clinic where he was rushed for treatment.

It is alleged that the LDUs, who were around six in number and were stationed at Kamdini police station went to Amati Trading Center in the evening on Saturday to disperse the crowd that later took off leaving behind Ogwang who was then badly battered.

The deceased was rushed to a nearby clinic from where he died shortly upon arrival.

Michael Odongo, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident saying their preliminary investigation show that Ogwang was assaulted by LDUs who are yet to be identified.

The police PRO faulted the LDUs for going to carry out an operation without the knowledge of Officer in charge of the police station.

He says investigations on the matter have began and the culprits will be brought to book. The body of the the 65-year old man has been taken to Lira Referral Hospital for a postmortem.

A murder case file has been opened under CRB 084/2020 at Oyam Police Station.
