Lira High Court has issued a temporary injunction blocking issuance of the NRM party primary election results for the Otuke County MP flag bearer. The Deputy Lira High Court Registrar Cissy K. Mudhasi issued the injunction on Tuesday in response to a petition by the primary election losers.

In the petition, Mudhasi restrains the NRM party from presenting Acon Julius Bua, the disputed winner of the primaries to the Electoral Commission as the party flag bearer until the petition is disposed of. The petitioners include Adams Makmot Kibwanga, Dr. Collins Jenesio Okuuleng, Milton Ocen and John Bosco Odongo.

The petitioners contested for election as NRM flag bearers for Otuke County parliamentary seat and lost to Bua. Bua polled 8483 votes; Kibwanga came second with 7371 votes, followed by Okuuleng in third position with 3987 votes, Odongo came forth with 3029 and Ocen trailed the pack with 339 votes.

However, the petitioners claim that Bua won the primaries fraudulently and that he lacks the requisite academic qualifications of Advanced Certificate of Education to contest for election as a Member of Parliament. Makmot also claims that his agents were harassed and expelled from polling stations by security operatives acting on behalf of Acon.

In the temporary injunction, Mudhasi also restrains Robert Abak, the Otuke Resident District Commissioner from using security operatives mainly the Army and Police from harassing voters while canvasing support for Acon.

Boniface Ouni, the Otuke District NRM party Registrar has confirmed receiving the court order saying it has already been served to the party secretariat.
