Lira Municipal Councillor Held for Threatening Violence

Police in Lira District is holding, Walter Fred Minyang, a councilor of Lira Municipal Council over allegations of threatening violence.

Minyang is alleged to have attempted to attack Mike Adoko, a resident of Ayago trading centre, in Lira town. He was arrested on Monday evening from Lira town and is being held at Lira CPS.

Minyang accused Adoko of reporting him to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit under the Command of Lt. Col Edith Nakalema.

Col.Nakalema recently ordered for the arrest of Minyang and other officials of Lira Municipal council accusing them of alleged financial irregularities.

Minyang was subsequently arrested and released on police bond late last week. But after his release, according to Adoko, he started moving around with a panga in his vehicle threatening to attack and kill him.

Adoko said this prompted him to report the case at Lira Central Police Station.

George Obia, the Lira District Police Commander says that police has preferred charges of threatening violence against Minyang pending approval and recommendations of the Resident State Attorney.

Recently Adoko presented to the Unit, details and some credible evidences including letters forged by Minyang in the controversial award of the contract to manage Coronation Park, a public open space to Saving Grace Investment.
