Local Footballer Stabbed to Death in Jinja

It is alleged that the deceased was jogging in the morning when unidentified people kidnapped and took him to Christ's Cathedral garden within Bugembe town Council, Jinja district where he is believed to have been stabbed twice in the stomach.

Edirisa Basalirwa, a footballer of Good News football club in Jinja has been stabbed to death.

The deceased was jogging on Wednesday when unidentified people kidnapped and took him to Christ's Cathedral Garden within Bugembe town Council, Jinja district where he is believed to have been stabbed twice in the stomach.

One of the eyewitnesses who spoke on condition of anonymity says that the deceased who bled profusely was rushed to Jinja regional referral hospital emergency unit.

"I was ferrying a passenger in the morning when youthful men rushed the deceased to the church garden. He attempted to scream," he says.

Musa Kyobe, another resident says that the church garden has become a spot for criminals.  He wants the police to increase foot patrols in the area.

"The garden has turned out to be a corner where most unemployed youth waylay passers-by and grab their valuables if security doesn't do something about it, more of these cases shall be registered in this stretch," he says.

Kiira region police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula says that Basalirwa was rushed to the hospital where he died three hours later.
