Local Gov't Ministry Interdicts Three Jinja Municipal Officials

The Local Government Ministry has interdicted three Jinja Municipal Council-JMC officials for alleged embezzlement and fraud. 

They are Samuel Mali, the Principal Human Resource Officer, Ronald Kafifi, the Chief Finance Officer and the Accountant, Jemima Mirembe.  

In his interdiction letter, the Local Government Ministry Permanent Secretary, Ben Kumumanya, says the officials are being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Directorate-CID.  

 

“The Criminal Investigations Directorate is conducting investigations into allegations of abuse of office, conspiracy to defraud, embezzlement, fraudulent accounting and money laundering. Vide CIDHQTRS/94/2020,” the letter reads in part.

 He says the three officials committed the crimes in the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 financial years. 

“These malpractices are reported to have taken place during financial year 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 in Jinja municipal council, following gross anomalies in financial management in contravention of the relevant laws and regulations,” it adds.   

Rajab Kiito, the Spokesperson Jinja Municipal Council, confirms the interdiction of the implicated officers. He however, declined to divulge details of the investigations.
