Lira district is reporting a poor turn up of voters the Ugandans vote for local government leaders. The election which comes barely a week after the Presidential and parliamentary election has so far attracted fewer participants.

At many polling stations in Lira, the voting activity has not yet started because there are no voters. The polling assistants and agents are seated hoping that any time, voters will walk in and exercise their right.

At Tedam polling station located in the city centre, by 8:30, only the polling officials were at the venue. Awele Joshua, the Presiding Officer at the centre said that although they expected the voting exercise to have started, there is no one to inspect the opening of the black box.

Meanwhile, at Akia Primary School polling station B which has 701 registered voters, only five had reported at the station by 9 a.m. The presiding officer who preferred anonymity expressed worry that most people might not participate in the polls.  At this polling station, only half of the registered voters participated in the presidential and parliamentary elections last Thursday.

The same scenario was witnessed at Akia primary school pilling station A where the polling officials were found sunbathing while waiting for voters to show up. At Tetugo polling station in Lira West, a few voters who came in two groups had cast their votes, leaving the polling officials with hardly anything to do.

At Cathedral Village where there are two polling stations,  not a single voter had turned up to cast their vote by 10 a.m. Meanwhile, at Adyel Division headquarters where there are three different polling stations, a handful of voters had shown up to cast their votes.
