Brig Ssekiranda tasked the new commander to develop
a clear sports strategy that would improve UPDF’s sports activities to greater
heights. “I commend the outgoing director Col Ssemanda because he has left a
clean account as a leader of the sports directorate. I challenge the incoming director
Col Kulu to pick up from where Col Ssemanda has left off and even improve the
department more,” Brig Ssekiranda said.
He reminded Lt Col Kulu that his
appointment is a big task that requires coordination,
teamwork, and cooperation. He, however, pledged that the UPDF strategic
leadership would accord him the necessary support.
Col Deus Taremwa, the Chief of Education, Sports, and
Culture in UPDF, said Col Ssemanda has diligently served as the director of sports.
He added that his tenure has laid a foundation on which Lt Col Kulu will build.
Col Ssemanda applauded the UPDF top leadership mostly the
Joint Chief of Staff Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda for the support rendered to him
during his tenure. “I thank the staff of the directorate for the support
and team spirit expressed during my tenure,” Col Ssemanda said.
Col Ssemanda added: “I urged the staff from different
disciplines such as football, basketball, handball, volleyball, kickboxing,
athletics, and boxing, to cooperate with the incoming director and to
professionally guide in any adjustments.”
Lt Col JA Kulu said he is grateful to the Army leadership
which has entrusted him with the responsibility to lead the sports directorate.
“I am extremely grateful for the confidence the strategic leadership has in me
and the responsibility bestowed on me. I thank the outgoing director and I promise
to work diligently in the execution of his duties.”
