National Resistance Movement aspirants in Luweero district have accused the party Electoral Commission of incompetence, hence failing the planned joint campaigns and polls.

Early this week, Dr. Tanga Odoi, the Chairman of the NRM Electoral Commission indefinitely suspended the joint campaigns and elections due to what he said were “unforeseen circumstances”.

However, contestants in Luweero said they would not participate in fresh joint campaigns unless the party Electoral Commission addresses irregularities that marred the past exercise.

Katikamu North MP Abraham Byandala who is seeking reelection for the seat blames the Electoral Commission for messing up the exercise by undertaking tasks they couldn\'t manage.

Some of these include the failure to provide a public address system and security at all joint rallies and the failure to send registrars to oversee and moderate campaigns, a mandate which has been taken over by LC officials.

Byandala also accuses NRM Electoral commission for failing to stop hooliganism.

Silver Karuhanga, another contestant for the Katikamu North Parliamentary seat says that such inconsistencies have facilitated voter bribery. He also accused registrars of siding with incumbents and sidelining new entrants.

Abdul Nadduli, the Incumbent District Chairman also blamed registrars for failing to enforce party guidelines that include arresting persons who promote disorder at public rallies.

Ronald Ndawula, another contender for the Chairman\'s seat says the reported irregularities spell doom for the forthcoming elections. Ndawula asked the NRM Electoral commission to address the issues raised to deter candidates from holding individual rallies in defiance.

NRM enthusiast Suleiman Semakula says the campaigns have lost meaning. Ssemakula wants NRM EC to leave candidates to organize individual rallies because the party has failed to moderate the joint campaigns.

But David Kamugisha, the Luweero NRM registrar says that the joint campaigns and past elections have been largely peaceful in the area. He however says that the issues that are emerging will be addressed before a new road map for elections is released.
