The chairman of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party in Luweero Absolom Bwanika Bbaale is Dead. Bwanika Baale died this afternoon after a battle with cancer.

Luweero district FDC spokesperson Geoffrey Kaddu says that Bwanika’s life deteriorated a month ago, after his return from India, where he had gone for specialized treatment.  He was then admitted at Kampala hospital, where he breathed his last.

Bwanika was a Constituency Assembly delegate for Katikamu County in 1995 and NRM supporter before conflicting with President Yoweri Museveni to join the FDC camp, then led by Dr Kizza Besigye. Bwanika has been the FDC Chairperson in Luweero district Since 2006.

Local Leaders in Luweero have described Bwanika as pro-development, transparent, decisive, and open-minded leader who has contributed to the struggle against bad governance in Uganda.

Paul Mukungu the LC III Chairperson of Luweero town says that Bwanika was instrumental in lobbying Non-Government Organizations to extend support to the area which was recovering from the liberation struggle. Mukungu adds that although Bwanika was opposition strongman, he was pro-development and has been resourceful for the town.

Charles Ssebyala, the Former LC III Chairperson of Luweero Town Council says that Bwanika is also remembered for being open and sticking to the truths in fighting for rule of law. Ssebyala explains that Bwanika turned away many favours to rejoin NRM some of which were irresistible for people who didn’t value the struggle for rule of law.

Swaibu Nsamba Gwojolonga, the FDC Chairperson for Katikamu South says that Bwanika is irreplaceable. He commends him for committing his life and resources to fight for a change in the country's leadership in the hands of those that devalue the rule of law.

By the time of compiling the report, several FDC supporters were converging at the party offices located at Kasana Piida zone along Kampala-Gulu highway to mourn the loss of party leader.
