There are heightened night patrols involving Police and Uganda People's Defenses Forces-UPDF in urban areas in Luweero district to curb rampant attacks on residents. The  patrols were prompted by several attacks on residents by unidentified thugs, which have so far claimed the life of one person and left scores injured since this year began.

Several residents have also lost property such as mobile phones, laptops, television sets, home appliances and money to the thugs through burglaries and robberies. Some of the latest victims of the attacks are Ephranse Nakabugo, Uthman Mukasa and Robert Ssebirumbi. Nakabugo, a resident of Nakikota village in Luweero Sub County was strangled to death by unknown thugs on Tuesday morning.

Uthman Mukasa and Robert Ssebirumbi are nursing injuries following their attack on Monday night. They sustained multiple injuries on the heads, arms and chest following machete attacks by thugs who wanted money from them. Other attacks have been reported in Wobulenzi town and Makulubita Sub County in Luweero district.

According to Ssebirumbi, he was sleeping in his home in Kiwogozi zone in Luweero town council when he saw thugs inside his bedroom. He says the thugs hacked him several times when he attempted to raise alarm leaving him unconscious. He says the thugs made off with a bag probably thinking it contained money, but there was nothing in it.

Grace Wadda, a resident of Kiwogozi zone says the attackers are armed with machetes, iron bars and axes which they use to terrorize residents.
