Wobulenzi Police in Luweero District are holding a 35 year old mother for allegedly dumping her own son in a forest.

Mario Ocit, the Officer-in-charge Wobulenzi Police Station, identifies the suspect as Jessica Otyang. She is a resident of Kibikke village in Katikamu Sub County, Luweero District. Otyang was arrested on Sunday after a tip from concerned residents.

Ocit says that the boy was discovered by one Prossy Kirabo, a resident of the same village, who had gone to the forest to fetch firewood and heard the crying child in the forest. Kirabo made a loud alarm that attracted residents who mounted a search and discovered the little boy in the forest.

Prossy Kirabo and other concerned residents identified the boy as a child who belongs to their fellow resident Jessica Otyang. The boy is called Soul Ouma aged 4 years. They took Ouma to Wobulenzi Police station and led the cops to Otyang's residential home and she was arrested.

Ocit says that upon interrogation, Otyang confessed dumping her son in a forest because she did not have any food for him. She said she had been abandoned by the boy's father.

Ocit said that Otyang will be taken to court to face charges of child negligence when investigations are complete but she is currently detained at Wobulenzi Police Station.
