On Thursday, the Luwero District Council, presided over by Speaker Abdul Mazinga, held a special session to pay tribute to Makubuya, a Former Area Member of Parliament and distinguished politician who served in several ministries.
The Luwero district council has paid tribute to Former Attorney
General Khiddu Makubuya.
Professor Edward Khiddu Makubuya, 75, died Sunday at Nakasero Hospital. He will be buried on Friday at his ancestral home in Katiiti village in Makulubita sub-county, Luwero district.
On Thursday, the Luwero District Council, presided over by Speaker Abdul Mazinga, held a special session to pay tribute to Makubuya, a
Former Area Member of Parliament and distinguished politician who served in
several ministries.
The body of Makubuya wasn't in the council hall but instead, a portrait was presented as councillors paid tributes.
Makubuya rose from the position of General Secretary of Luwero
District Resistance Council, served as a Member of Parliament for Katikamu South from 1996-2016, and served in several ministerial posts as well as Attorney General.
During the council sitting, Christine Nakamanya the Vice Chairperson
of Luwero district moved a motion to honor Makubuya describing him as
an accomplished academician whose contribution to the legal fraternity will outlive him and a leader who represented the area diligently at
the National level.
Hussein Kato the district councillor representing Bombo town
council seconded the motion saying that Khiddu was an outstanding MP in
Parliament whose legal advice to the State and President Yoweri Museveni shaped
several legal frameworks.
Kato added that within the district, Khiddu helped the
education department to code several schools to access capitation grants
and contributed money towards constructing them while he was serving as Minister
of Education and Sports.
Kato said that Makubuya also lobbied for support towards
Nyimbwa Health Center IV, Ndejje University, Bombo SS, Lukole SS and Kalasa SS
among several others.
He added that Khiddu lobbied for scholarships for
hundreds of children to study at Makerere University and abroad.
Kato also moved a motion for the district council to construct a pediatric
ward at Makulubita Health Center IV and name it before Makubuya in recognition of his significant contribution to the area.

The Councilors unanimously supported the motion and amended it to include naming a district road within Makulubita sub county after him.
During the Council sitting, Alhaji Abdul Nadduli the Former Luwero LC
5 Chairman and Minister described Makubuya as the straightforward person who
offered legal opinions to Museveni without fear.

Erastus Kibirango the LCV Chairperson of Luwero district said
that it was befitting for the council to honour Khiddu due to his achievement
from his humble beginning and significant contribution towards the foundation of the
district.
Kibirango challenged President Museveni to give what is due
to Luwero in remembrance of the contribution of Khiddu Makubuya and the late Kisamba
Mugerwa to his government.
