The Luwero District Kadhi has asked President Yoweri Museveni not to appoint corrupt ministers in his new cabinet.

According to the 2020 Corruption Perceptions Index reported by Transparency International, Uganda is the 142nd least corrupt nation out of 179 countries. The Agency ranked Uganda as one of the most corrupt countries in Africa, below Kenya, Mauritania and Nigeria.

Studies by the Global Integrity Report, have in the past years estimated that more than half of Uganda’s budget is lost to corruption each year.

Speaking to Muslims who converged at Kasana Mosque in Luwero town council to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the Luwero District Kadhi Sheikh Ramadhan Mulindwa asked Museveni to act tough on high ranking government officials who are implicated in corruption tendencies.

Mulindwa says that corruption has denied Ugandans services such as medicines in hospitals, good roads and retarded development of the country.

Mulindwa says that it was disappointing to see the same people named in corrupt scandals being named as Ministers. He asked Museveni that in his new term to appoint competent and corrupt-free ministers to serve if service delivery to be realized.

Mulindwa also blasted anti-corruption agencies for running around arresting people who embezzle peanuts and leave those who have stolen billions of shillings scot-free.

Denes Sekabira the Katikamu North Member of Parliament elect welcomed Kadhi’s message but said he was sceptical that Museveni can end corruption in the new term.

Sekabira alleged that it’s the corrupt ministers that have helped Museveni to retain power and there is no way he can’t re-appoint them.
