Police are holding Paul Kakande, the director of Prime Alliance Primary School in Kyazanga in Lwengo district for flogging a pupil to death. Kakande is wanted for allegedly beating up 14-year-old Muhammad Kabuye, a primary seven pupil leading to his death.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that Kakande punished Kabuye for missing mock trial exams without a convincing reason. The pupil fainted in the course of being canned and breathed his last shortly after being rushed to a private clinic in Kyazanga town.

The deceased's father, Mubiru Byandala, a resident of Lutovu village in Kyazanga Rural Sub County, says he was shocked to receive news that his son had died of malaria.

According to Byandala, since they are Muslims they started making burial arrangements but they were surprised to find the body of the minor with marks of lashes, raising suspicion on what could have happened.

Angry mourners ganged up against Kakande who had showed up for burial and attempted to lynch him before they expelled him from the funeral. Hassan Matovu, a resident of the area demanded for justice for the minor.

He asked police to carry out thorough investigations to ensure that the perpetrators are arraigned in court. He blames teachers for administering severe punishments to pupils, saying this must stop.

Lameck Kigozi the Southern Region Police Spokesperson says they picked up Kakande for questioning over the circumstances surrounding Kabuye's death.

He says they are also holding Abud Lutayam, the proprietor of the clinic where Kabuye died from and Rahiru Nambeja, a nurse at same facility for forging a medical report indicating that Kabuye succumbed to malaria to help police investigations into the matter.

He however, says they tried to plead with the family to halt the burial to allow for medical examination in vain.

//Cue In: "We are in plans

Cue Out:...chased away from funeral,”

He condemned the teacher's decision to whip the minor with a cable as his parents claim, saying they are likely to charge the culprit with murder.
