Lyantonde District Engineer Interdicted

Kiwanuka was arrested in January and dragged to the anti corruption court for reportedly swapping two government vehicle engines without the consent of council. It is alleged that Kiwanuka, swapped the engine of a Toyota Hillux registration number LG 0001-77, belonging to the office of the district speaker and that of Ranger Ford UG-124R from the water department, with engines of a saloon car.
The Lyantonde District Engineer Francis Kiwanuka has been interdicted for alleged embezzlement and abuse of office.

According to the interdiction letter signed by the Chief administrator Officer (CAO) David Lubuuka, the District Engineer’s interdiction stems from his pending trial  before the anti-corruption court.

The scheme was uncovered by the Lyantonde District Public Accounts Committee, which indicated that Kiwanuka swamped the engines after disguising that the engines were faulty.

Last month, Akello Judith Franca, the chairperson of parliament's Local Government Public Accounts Committee ordered the District CAO to interdict Kiwanuka until his case before court is disposed of.

Lubuuka says that Kiwanuka’s interdiction was done in accordance with the public service standing orders to pave way for investigations into Kiwanuka’s cases.

“I hereby regret to inform you that are interdicted from the exercise of powers and functions of the district engineer…." reads part of the letter.

Ali Bongo Damulira, the Kooki ward Lyantonde Town Council representative welcomed the interdiction Kiwanuka saying that his actions have cost the district a lot of money.
