Lyantonde District authorities are on the spot for awarding a market tender to two contractors.

Paul Kato, the Director Leads and Services Limited, says the district awarded him the contract to manage Kyemamba cattle market in Lyakajura Sub County.

He however, says his contract was cancelled and the market awarded to unidentified person without his knowledge.

Kato explains that his contract was running when the market was closed because of the livestock quarantine following the foot and mouth disease.

He however, says he was shocked to receive information that another person had been contracted to operate the market when the quarantine was lifted.

Kato says he was remitting Shillings 8 million to the district confers each month, adding that he had paid Shillings 16 million by the time the quarantine was imposed.

Kato has now threatened to drag Lyantonde Local government to court if it refuses to compensate him for the losses he has incurred.

According to Kato, he has continuously written to the district since March to address his concerns in vain.

The Lyantonde Chief Administrative Officer, David Lubuuka admits the fault, saying the contract was awarded to another person by the sub county authorities without the knowledge of the district.

He asked Kato to stay calm, saying that the district will liaise with the Sub county authorities to ensure that his money is refunded.
