The two officials of Lyantonde district have been arrested over missing car engines.

Francis Kiwanuka, the Lyantonde District Engineer, and Moses Ndawula Lyantonde Chief Finance Officer are accused of switching double cabin engines with that of another car.

The two officials are currently being held at criminal investigations directorate headquarters at Kibuli where they had reported to record statements on Wednesday.

An investigation conducted by the District Public Accounts Committee showed that the Engines of two vehicles belonging to the district had been changed without the approval of the district council.

John Bosco Kisekka, the Chairperson Lyantonde District Public Accounts Committee, says that they were forced to forward the matter to the police after failing to get explanations from the duo about the missing engines.

He says that Kiwanuka, used private garages to change the vehicle engines yet the district contracted two garages to handle all issues related to repairs and distribution of spare parts.

Police investigations indicate that Ndawula connived with Kiwanuka to swap the engines.

Kiwanuka, however, has dismissed the claims by the Public Accounts Committee, saying they are baseless and aimed at tarnishing his name.

Vincent Sekate the spokesperson of Criminal Investigations Directorate –CID confirmed the arrest of the two officials but said that investigations into the matter have started.
