Dr Robert Ojala, the Senior Veterinary Inspector in charge of North Eastern Uganda told the City and district leaders that the Ministry had decided to repossess the land and will be used as a quarantine station for Teso Sub Region.

has repossessed over 200 acres of land in Soroti.
Early this month, Soroti City Councillors locked horns with the district leadership
after the district authorities destroyed structures at Amukaru, an area
belonging to Aloet Ward in Soroti City.
The city councillors accused the district authorities of
frustrating efforts by the city to create revenue from Amukaru market. They also
faulted the LCV Chairperson Simon Peter Edoru Ekuu and the Resident District Commissioner,
Patrick Okumu for setting a parallel weekly market at Akaikai in Arapai Sub
But the district said that they had only relocated from their old site to
Akaikai which belongs to the district. Soroti District has been running a

the decision by MAAIF to repossess the land is timely especially at the time
when tempers were high between the two institutions.

MAAIF is welcome but asked them to make the best use of the land to protect it

The struggle for the weekly market area between the district and the city was
