Makerere University multi-purpose Sports Arena is yet to be accomplished
after spending almost four years under construction.
The construction of the Arena started in 2018 with intentions
of hosting the 3rd World University Netball

games prematurely in 2018 the arena has now spent three years under
construction by UPDF Engineering Brigade.But it yet to be completed despite
promises by the University that the arena will be done to completion after hosting

department at Makerere University told Uganda Radio Network that the work was
halted due to Covid-19 but the UPDF Engineering Brigade has once again embarked on the

The administrator also explained to URN that the work was
also slowed by redesigning of the Arena after the FISU games, saying they
wanted to expand the sitting capacity from 1,500 to 3,000. She said the
process of approving the new design also slowed the operations.

In the process of redesigning the arena, Kabenge
said the University incurred extra expenses that were not part of the initial
budget for the facility. And since the new designed had to be approved by KCCA, she said this also hugely affected the process.

Kabenge however declined to commit herself as to when the arena will be
finished. 5.57 billion Shillings was earlier released by government
to construct the multi-purpose centre.
The facility is expected to have a pavilion, stadium,
offices, washrooms, parking lot, and access roads. Despite this, the
