Police in Busoga East have recovered the lifeless body of 25-year-old Anthony Kavuma. The incident occurred in Nawanzali village, Mazuba sub-county, Namutumba district, where Kavuma was electrocuted on Tuesday.

According to reports, Kavuma was attempting to connect an illegal powerline to his cinema hall when he suffered a fatal electric shock. His body has been taken to Bugiri General Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination before being handed over to his family for burial.

Alphonse Musana, the father of the deceased, stated that his son was engaging in an illegal power connection during a period of minimal rainfall, which may have contributed to the fatal accident. He also expressed concern over the prevalence of uncontrolled illegal power connections in their area, posing risks to the safety of residents and their property.

James Mukulume, the LC 1 chairperson, revealed that many residents in the area use illegal power connections, adding that numerous residents have fallen victim to electricity-related accidents, but these incidents are often attributed to witchcraft or lightning, hindering proper investigations.

Diana Nandawula, the Busoga East police spokesperson, revealed that their enforcement teams are collaborating with stakeholders in the power distribution industry to crack down on illegal power connections in the region. Their aim is to ensure the safety of residents and prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.
