Man Hangs Self Days After Surviving Self Poisoning

Michael Alfred Otim, a resident of Lacor Center in Patuda Ward, Bardege-Layibo Division reportedly made the first attempt to end his life last week after ingesting poison following a brawl with his wife.
A 52-year-old health practitioner and businessman in Gulu City committed suicide by hanging on Monday evening just a week after medics saved his life from self-poisoning.

Michael Alfred Otim, a resident of Lacor Center in Patuda Ward, Bardege-Layibo Division reportedly made the first attempt to end his life last week after ingesting poison following a brawl with his wife. He was rescued and rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor before being discharged from the health facility days later in good health condition.

The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, David Ongom Mudong in a statement says that after Otim’s discharge from the hospital, he returned home only to find his wife had left for her mother’s home, leaving him disheartened.

Mudong says that after successfully negotiating his wife’s return on Sunday, Otim's attempts to convince her to enter the bedroom later in the evening were futile, which further angered him.

According to Mudong, Otim locked himself in the bedroom in anger while playing loud music, and his lifeless body was found hanging on a noose made of mosquito net by his mother early on Monday morning.

He says that Police detectives visited the crime scene and retrieved Otim’s body, which is currently lying at St Mary’s Hospital Lacor pending postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. The Police are yet to also ascertain the motives behind Otim’s suicide case, which has been registered at Lacor Police Post under DEF 005/2023.
