Man Held for Assaulting MP at Campaign Rally

Mulikyi was apprehended this afternoon when he attacked the legislator during his final campaign rally in Bwesumbu Sub-county.
Police in Kasese are holding a man accused of attacking William Nzoghu, the incumbent Busongora North Member of parliament. The suspect is Andrea Mulikyi, a resident of Bwesumbu Sub-county.

Mulikyi was apprehended this afternoon when he attacked the legislator during his final campaign rally in Bwesumbu Sub-county. It took the intervention of other voters to save the legislator and arrest Mulikyi.

They later handed him to Police. The legislator sustained an injury one of his fingers. Nzoghu, who has since sought medical attention from Bishop Masereka Medical Centre in Kasese Municipality, has called on voters to desist from electoral violence.

He argues that the country and Kasese will live beyond February 18th, adding that there is no need for people to attack each other. Mulikyi is currently being held at Kasese Central Police Station for assault.

It is not yet clear why he attacked the legislator.
