The Police in Oyam District has arrested a 39-year-old for allegedly
killing his brother.
Jonathan Ongom, a resident of Akaoidebe ‘B’ cell, Iceme sub-county used an axe
to kill his brother Jonathan Kazura over a land row.
The incident followed a disagreement involving the two over a
family plot of land despite the row being handled by the clan chief commonly
known as Awitong.
Kazura’s death angered the residents who stormed Ongom’s home threatening to
lynch. He was however rescued by police who whisked him away to Oyam Central
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional police spokesperson confirmed the
incident saying post-mortem was done at the scene and the body was handed over
to the relatives for burial while the accused has been detained at Oyam Central
Okema called on clan leaders and other stakeholders involved in handling family
disputes especially land to always keep security personnel informed.

Incidences of murder have been on the rise in the North Kyoga region where 110
murder cases have been registered between January and June.
