Man Killed in Battle for Sex Worker in Bar

The two men reportedly clashed over a commercial sex worker in the bar, after each had paid her 5,000 Shillings but a dispute arose over who was to take precedence.

Buyende police are investigating the death of 31-year-old, Adiso Madigo, a resident of Kalwaala village, in Nkondo sub-county in a bar brawl.

Bars are supposed to be closed under presidential directive and also given the curfew, so the mere presence in and opening of a bar is a criminal offence during the period of restrictions for preventing the spread of the coronavirus.

It is reported that Madigo collapsed to death during a violent fight with Ben Gidonyi on Wednesday night. Gidonyi voluntarily surrendered to Buyende central police station and confessed to fighting the deceased.

Eyewitnesses say that the two men clashed over a commercial sex worker in the bar.

An employee at the bar which was operating illegally told URN on condition of anonymity that the two men paid the unidentified sex worker 5,000 Shillings each. She, however, says that Gidonyi wanted to forcefully grab the sex worker from the bar, which sparked off the fight.

Lovisa Namwase, one of the area residents, says that they attempted to save Madigo by rushing him to a private clinic for emergency treatment but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

"He hit his head on a big stone outside the bar and our efforts to save him did not yield anything," she said.

The Busoga North Region police spokesperson, Michael Kasadha, says that inquiries into the matter are still ongoing.
