A 28-year-old man who was shot by police officers in Pader
District on Saturday evening has died from Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

died last night, shortly after being referred to the hospital in critical
condition for emergency medical treatment.
The deceased was among two other teenagers shot by police officers attached to
Awere Police station who fired live bullets to disperse a group of rowdy locals
protesting the arrest of a suspect.
They are Samuel Canogura 16, who is admitted at Lagile Health Center II and
17-years-old Francis Obedgui, a student who is admitted at Lira Regional
Referral Hospital in critical condition.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the
death of Odong in an interview with Uganda Radio Network on Sunday morning.
He says the deceased body is still at Lira Regional Referral Hospital morgue
pending post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death.
Okema says the victim was hit by a stray bullet in his lower stomach after
their police officers fired live bullets in the air to disperse locals who were
attacking police officers with pelting stones.
Corporal Geoffrey Ocan, the Officer-in-charge of Awere Police station and
Police Constable Paul Lukeca had reportedly arrested an army officer Moses
Okello from Lagile Parish when locals became rowdy and attacked them.
Okema says the army officer was accused of threatening violence, causing
grievous harm and attempted murder on a 69-year-old woman Marcelina Abur and
his brother Kenneth Okello residents of Okelotoo village.
The suspect reportedly fled during the scuffle with a
handcuff and is at large according to Okema.
He says investigations into the unfortunate shooting has commenced
adding that a case of shooting has been opened under file number CRB34/2020 at Pader
Central Police station.
