The victim's father, Yazid Mukose, says that efforts of ensuring harmonious living between Namukose and Isabirye have proven futile over endless fights. Even his relocating his daughter to faraway places like Kampala and Teso hasn't helped, as her host relatives there tire of Isabirye's embroiling them in the senseless fights
Police in Busoga East has embarked on a manhunt for Isaac Isabirye over chopping off the lips of his ex-wife, Sharifah Namukose.
Namusoke, a resident of Namatooke village, in Mpungwe sub county, in Mayuge district says that Isabirye, who was riding on a numberless motorcycle in the company of three other men rounded her up as she was walking back home from the trading center on Saturday night at 9:30pm.
Namukose says that Isabirye who resides in the neighbouring village of Mugibile demanded to know whether she had remarried and amidst this bitter exchange, he chopped off her lips using a knife before fleeing.
Namukose bled profusely, passed out for close to one hour, but she has since regained consciousness and she is currently admitted at Jinja regional referral's emergency ward, awaiting further treatment.
Namukose, now aged 24 years, says that she separated with Isabirye three years ago over endless domestic brawls, which according to her were beyond reconciliation.
Namukose adds that they have a son together and had agreed to maintain a cordial relationship for his sake, however, she blames Isabirye for consistent violence against her, which risks to undermine decent growth for their child, who is being raised within the same area.
The father, Yazid Mukose, says that efforts of ensuring harmonious living between Namukose and Isabirye have proven futile over endless fights.
Mukose notes that much as elders from cultural, religious and political spheres in the area have laboured to harmonize the situation, Isabirye never honours his pledges and instead resorts to violence.
Mukose says that at different times between late last year and August, 2024, he even entrusted Namukose with distant relatives in Kampala and Serere district respectively, but still Isabirye still instigate violence in those areas, prompting her custodians to tire of getting embroiled in these endless fights.
On his part, the Mayuge resident district commissioner, Thomas Matende, has warned couples against domestic violence, warning that, such forms of criminality can overtime lead to death of victims and in turn culminate into long prisons sentences for the perpetrators.
Matende says that he is collaborating with local leaders to ensure timely arrest of the suspect, who will be charged with instigating domestic violence and causing grievous bodily harm.
