Residents of Bumufuni parish Khabutola sub-county in Manafwa district on Wednesday held a peaceful demonstration against the poor state of the Maare-Kalidi road.
According to Robert Malinga one of the residents says that the road has spent over twenty years without rehabilitation.
Kenth Wakoko a Boda Boda rider says that transport costs have has
increased in the area due to impassible roads.
Samson Mukhwana said the area Member of Parliament, Christopher Welikhe
had promised to use his money to work on that road but he has not. It
should be however be noted by all Ugandans that a member of parliament
is charged with passing laws and oversight over the executive but not
the construction of roads, building schools, contributing to burials,
and paying school fees among others.
Sezi Kaboole the LCIII
chairperson of Khabutola sub county says that the Sub County receives meager road funds to rehabilitate all roads in the sub-county.
He adds
that the two million shillings the Sub-county receives in a financial year are small to rehabilitate over 20 roads in the Sub County.
He urged the well-wishers and political leaders to come and support them such that they can rehabilitate the road since the sub-county has delayed work on it.
