Residents of Bumufuni parish Khabutola sub-county in Manafwa district on Wednesday held a peaceful demonstration against the poor state of the Maare-Kalidi road.

According to Robert Malinga one of the residents says that the road has spent over twenty years without rehabilitation.

Kenth Wakoko a Boda Boda rider says that transport costs have has increased in the area due to impassible roads.

Samson Mukhwana said the area Member of Parliament, Christopher Welikhe had promised to use his money to work on that road but he has not. It should be however be noted by all Ugandans that a member of parliament is charged with passing laws and oversight over the executive but not the construction of roads, building schools, contributing to burials, and paying school fees among others.

Sezi Kaboole the LCIII chairperson of Khabutola sub county says that the Sub County receives meager road funds to rehabilitate all roads in the sub-county.

He adds that the two million shillings the Sub-county receives in a financial year are small to rehabilitate over 20 roads in the Sub County.

He urged the well-wishers and political leaders to come and support them such that they can rehabilitate the road since the sub-county has delayed work on it.
