Marks Scam: Makerere Witholds Results of Over 400 Students

Makerere University is withholding results of more than 400 students after police unearthed a scam of forged marks last week. The results from the faculty of Economics and Management were withheld after police investigations revealed discrepancies in the marks sent from the senate and those from the faculty. Police picked up five officials from the tabulation office in relation to the scam and commenced investigations.  

Now, Ritah Namisango, the Makerere University spokesperson says that the university has decided to withhold the results of more than 400 students for review. She says that the affected students will only be confirmed for graduation after the results have been cleared. She explains that police is investigating to establish the circumstances under which the marks were changed by officials in the tabulation office. The tabulation office is currently being manned by police  and is out of bounds to the public.

Officially, results are supposed to be displaced thrice by the university to enable students clear their outstanding issues with the administration by October. However, November is underway with no sign of results. Dr. Edward Kateregga, the dean of the school of economics declined to comment saying that the matter is beyond his office.
