Monica Tuyinamaholo, a councillor representing Kigamba Parish and also Secretary for Production on the division executive committee has been arrested for burning Keith Ninsima (11), with molten plastic.

Tuyinamaholo was picked up by local council officials on Wednesday after receiving complaints from neighbors that the suspect had seriously beaten, and burnt the toddler with plastic.

According to Ninsima, on Sunday after he was given a 20,000shillings note by his mother Tuyinamaholo to go to shop to buy bread for 1000shillings. He says that the balance given to him by the shop attendant were coins and he accidentally lost the money on the way back home.

 Ninsima says that after her mother discovered that he had lost the balance, she started beating him up accusing him of stealing her money. She then grabbed a jerry can, set it on fire and then dripped the melting plastic on his fingers and legs.

Bernard Babu, Masaka District Deputy Criminal Investigations Officer, has confirmed the arrest of Tuyinamaholo saying that the suspect is likely to face charges of torture and child neglect when investigations into the matter are complete.

Tuyinamaholo is held at Masaka Police station while the victim is hospitalized at Masaka Referral Hospital as investigations into the matter goes on.
