Masaka COVID-19 Patient Dies, Two In Critical Condition

According to Onyach, they received three COVID-19 patients including a man and two women. Unfortunately, the man died and the women are improving.

A sixty-year-old male patient has succumbed to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID19) at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital.  Dr. Nathan Onyach, the Hospital Director, says that the patient passed on few hours after his arrival. He adds that he had all signs and symptoms of COVID19 mostly difficulty in breathing.  

 According to Onyach, they received three COVID-19 patients including a man and two women. Unfortunately, the man died and the women are improving. He noted that they are the first COVID19 patients to be admitted in the last three months.

He explains that they have 42 COVID patients on home-based care. Onyach says that they are working closely with Village Health Teams in the treatment and monitoring of the patients.

Onyach says that they have run out of COVID vaccines yet the number of cases keeps growing. He explains that even the stores at the district headquarters are empty but they are in touch with district health authorities to ensure they get more vaccines.

However, Obadiya Musimenta, the Masaka District Internal Security Officer, says that they are working out modalities to enforce the Standard Operation Procedures set by the Ministry of Health.

 

He noted that the COVID task force and the District Security Committee held a meeting on Wednesday last week to chat the way forward of implementing the SOPs. Musimenta explains that they may be forced to erect roadblocks to bar those without masks from going through.
