The Masaka Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Joseph Ssekasamba is in trouble for reportedly assaulting Fred Kalema, the NRM Chairperson for Nyendo-Ssenyange division in Masaka Municipality.

The incident occurred on Friday night at one of the local joints in Masaka town where Kalema had gone to meet two district officials.

It is said that upon arrival Ssekasamba started insulting Kalema accusing him of supporting his rival Peter Ssenkungu who is the District National Resistance Movement Chairperson.

Kalema says that his appeals for Ssekasamba to stop insulting him in public were futile. However, in the process, Ssekasamba hit Kalema with a beer bottle. A broken piece cut his foot.

His colleagues rushed him to Masaka Regional Referral hospital for treatment. A medical report from the unit confirmed the injuries

Kalema later reported the matter to police and a file Msk/MCD/113/2016 opened up for inquiries. John Chrysostom Mwaule, the District Police Commander, confirmed the incident saying they are investigating the matter.

However, Ssekasamba denied the accusations saying he did not attack Kalema and declined to say much about the incident. Police sources say that Ssekasamba has declined to record a statement in response to the matter.

They further explain that already three cases of assault propagated by Ssekasamba have been reported since 2015 and Kalema's case being the most recent.

As a result, a group of youths under Youth for National Salvation has stormed the RDC's office block protesting Ssekasamba's action.

Kabanda David, YNASA Chairperson, says that Kalema needed their support so as to draw attention of the concerned officials to take action against Ssekasamba.

Vincent Birimuye, another member, says they are processing a petition to President Yoweri Museveni demanding for Ssekasamba's transfer for allegedly abusing his office.
