Masaka Municipality Councillors have supported the motion relieving Johnson Munono Balyantuma, of the duties of Masaka Town clerk over abuse of office.
15 out of 18 councillors voted in support of the motion to relieve the Balyantuma of his duties.
Balyantuma is accused of mismanaging the municipality affairs, having poor working relations with politicians, financial misappropriations, as well as contempt of the council.
Suleiman Ssenyonga, councillor representing Nyendo Ssenyange division, who moved the motion, says the Balyantuma has failed to perform his duties and they cannot keep him in office any more.
In his motion, Ssenyonga accuses the Balyantuma of arrogance and disrespect to the councillors.
He says that despite council resolutions, Balyantuma insisted on maintaining the Masaka United Taxi Drivers and Owners Cooperative Society (MUTDOCS) in the Municipal Tax Park, without a valid contract with the council, and without even paying any revenue to the treasury.
He says that councillor had resolved to have MUTDOCS removed from the park yard, but Balyantuma failed to implement the resolution.
Ssenyonga also accuses Balyantuma of fuelling the disagreements between the Mayor and some councillors. He claims that Balyantuma has been the force behind blocking the passing of an executive committee for two years.
Henry Busuulwa, a councillor representing central zone, seconded the motion, and accussing the town clerk of fraudulently awarding contracts to companies that have provided shoddy services to the Municipality thereby causing financial losses to them.
He also alleges that Balyantuma over inflated the price of the dumping site, with an intention of levying interest on the funds council passed to this effect.
Speaker after speaker accused Balyantuma of failing to effectively run the affairs of the municipality.
The annexure of the motion also indicates that Municipal council loses 19 million shillings and yet the town clerk receives 960,000 shillings per month from the taxi park.
The councillors also say that they no longer receive their allowances as they used before. Meanwhile, in a vote, 15 of the 18 councillors, voted in support of the motion.
