Masaka Municipality authorities have embarked on the move to eliminate stray dogs from the town.

The Masaka Municipality Veterinary officer, Simon Peter Ssenabulya, says that the move to poison all roaming dogs follows the growing number of unvaccinated stray dogs in the area that are terrorising school-going children and residents,

The operation kicked off in Katwe/ Butego Division and will be extended to the two other divisions of Kimanya/Kyabakuza and Nyendo ssenyange.

He says that since the poison used in killing dogs is so costly the municipality has asked divisions to contribute funds to procure materials.

Hassan Wamala, a resident of Kimaanya A, zone in Kimaanya/Kyabakuza division says that he has lost at least 4 goats to the stray dogs.

Denis Lukanga Majwala, Katwe Butego division chairperson, says that they have agreed that the divisions should raise some money so that they can be able to conduct periodic poisoning of the dogs in the municipality.

He says that dogs have become a menace in various localities yet they are not vaccinated which puts the lives of residents at risk of catching rabies in cases they are bitten by dogs.
