John Mafabi, the Officer in Charge of Pakanyi Police Station in Masindi district has been injured in a clash with suspected criminals.
Mafabi had led a team of officers to pick up suspects from a pub at Pakanyi trading center on Monday evening when the clash broke out.
The suspects boxed Mafabi injuring his eyes prompting his juniors to fire teargas to disperse the rowdy suspects.
They picked up one of the suspects identified as Joaquim Karungi, a resident of Pakanyi trading center and whisked him off to Pakanyi Police station.
Mafabi was rushed to Pakanyi health center III for treatment for the injuries he sustained during the scuffle. The Officer confirmed to the URN that he was indeed attacked by the suspects, saying several other police officers sustained minor injuries during the scuffle.

Mafabi says they have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects, saying they will be charged with smoking opium that contravenes the law.
He says crime rate in the area has skyrocketed due to the involvement of youths in opium smoking. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, confirms the report.
He says when police raided the pub some of the suspects were found in possession of knives, sticks and machetes. He says the attack on police officers will not intimidate them.
