Youths leaders in Masindi district have vowed to launch a war against members of parliament behind the proposal to scrap presidential age limits from the constitution. Last week, a group of NRM legislators endorsed a proposal to amend article 102 (b), which restricts the presidential age between 35 and 75-years of age.

The move is seen as an attempt to pave way for president, Yoweri Museveni to seek another term in the 2021 polls. Addressing a press conference at D'venue hotel in Masindi town on Monday, Ignatius Tumusiime, the Masindi Municipal Council Councilor, asked the MPs to respect the constitution.

He said it is wrong for the legislators to amend the constitution to suit Individual interests as opposed to national interests. Tumusiime warned National youth leaders who are traversing the country to popularize the proposed amendment of article 102 not to bother going to Masindi district, saying they will resist them.

Tumusiime also asked Evelyn Annite, the Investment State Minister to apologize for dragging Uganda People's Defense Forces into partisan politics when she claimed the army was on the side of those pushing for the proposal to scrap presidential age limits from the constitution.

Joseph Wamani, the Masindi District Youth Councilor and Secretary Central Division NRM Youth League asked the MPs to speak about the wrongs in the country instead of focusing on amending article 102 of the constitution.
