Health workers in Kabarole district have started mass covid-19 vaccination for all teachers and non-teaching staff.

Four vaccination centres have been set up in Kabarole District and Fort Portal City. The centres include Kyebambe Girls, Nyakasura School, Kigarama and Kiburara Primary Schools.

Stephen Muhenda the Fort Portal City Health Educator says that they received 2,387 doses of Sinovac vaccines which will be administered during the three day exercise that started on Wednesday.

According to Muhenda, there are enough vaccines to enable all clients to complete their jabs.

//Cue in; here we expect...

Cue out we want to first exhaust”//

Charles Tatina a teacher, who received his vaccination at Kyamara, said that he was hesitant to take the jab due to misinformation about the side effects.

//Cue in: I feared because….

Cue out: ….this is my second jab”//

Lillian Birungi, a teacher says that after the experience of losing some of her close family members to covid- 19, she accepted to take the jab.

//Cue in: “vaccination...

Cue out: ...day to day duties"//

Kenneth Mapera a teacher at St Leo's College says he was happy to receive his second jab and he hasn’t experienced any side effects.

Muhenda says that 26,000 AstraZeneca doses will be distributed to several health centres and other vaccination centres in Fort Portal City and Kabarole District.

Brian Kisembo the Acting Kabarole District Health Officer says that there is a need to mobilize the teachers who haven’t received the jab to take part. He has since tasked the relevant teacher’s associations in the district and school heads to spearhead campaigns in rallying teachers to embrace the vaccination campaign.

The government targets to vaccinate 550,000 teachers all over the country. However, in August this year, only 110,000 teachers had been vaccinated according to the Health Ministry.
