The grand opening ceremony was Sunday graced by a friendly match between big league side Kataka FC against Busia young from the regional tier with Coach Toldo’s chargers Kataka winning 2-0 thanks to first half goals from Okuru Swammad and Owundo Vincent as both teams prepare for the upcoming fixtures in the Stanbic Uganda cup.
The
Mbale Municipal Stadium has finally been re-opened following 7-months of closure
for rehabilitation in a bid to regain it's smooth green
playing surface.
The
stadium sitting on a vast 4 acres of land is the treasured home of several
clubs in the district including two big-league sides, Kataka FC and Kiboga young/Mbale
Heroes FC.
The
grand opening ceremony that took place on Sunday was graced by a friendly match between big league
side Kataka FC against Busia young from the regional tier. Kataka FC emerged winners 2-0 with goals scored by Swammad Okuru and Vincent Owundo.
Latif Mafuko, FUFA delegate Eastern Region who also doubles as the president Kataka FC warned that there will be no training sessions at the stadium by any team as the pitch shall only be reserved for matches.
Mafuko
also thanked the municipal council for working hand in hand with the community
to better the sporting facility and vowed to complete the remaining
improvements in the dressing rooms, internal fencing and the pavilions

Following
the closure of the fortress, teams in Mbale had sought refuge at Mbale SS and
the famous CRO San Siro stadium in Namanyonyi sub-county. In the past, the Mbale Municipal Stadium hosted the regional CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in 1984, 1992 and
2002.
