Mbarara City Engineer On Spot Over Shoddy Work

Mbarara city engineer Meriner Kekijustyo is on spot over shoddy works on the 4Kilometer Ekihangire-Lake Mburo gate road.

The road in question was allocated 25 million Shillings to have it graded and the opening of trenches. The money was received by Rwenjeru ward as revenue sharing from Lake Mburo National Park.

Now Residents of Katengeto cell in Rwenjeru ward Mbarara city north Division are accusing the engineer of failing to grade the road as agreed and failing to present the Bills of Quantities to the committees that contracted her.

Joseph Gumisiriza, Rwengyeru ward representative to Mbarara City North Division council, says the money received goes through different established committees like the management and procurement committees.

He says according to the committees, murrum was put on 1 kilometre instead of the 4 Kilometers they had agreed and now are demanding for accountability.

David Muhumuza, the chairperson of LC 1 Kategento cell says they received 28 million Shillings from Lake Mburo National Park as revenue sharing but it was deducted down to 25 million for road construction.

He adds that they trusted the city engineer to do for them good work but she has instead allegedly  presented fake accountability.

David Kabandwa, the chairperson Katengeto village Management committee accuses the city engineer of hiding the Bills of quantities they had prepared together and allegedly presented fake bills of quantities.

Namara David, chairperson of the Procurement Committee, Katengeto Village says the money for the construction of the road was received from the National Park as revenue sharing but it has been misused allegedly by the city engineer.

He says they are being told the construction ended but what they had agreed like putting marram, trenches were not done.

In her defence, the city engineer Meriner Kekijusyo, says that she had agreed with the area councilor that the money that was allocated for the construction of the road was not enough for full gravelling

The city mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi said that they are going to follow up on the issue to get the right accountability.
