NRM registrars in Bwijanga Sub County, Masindi district are irked by the meager payments given to them for conducting the NRM membership registration exercise. The registrars were paid 15,000 Shillings for a 12-day task.

John Isingoma, a registrar for Kisomabutuzi village says the payment is not worth the task. He said they expected to earn at least 7,000 Shillings per day. Bwijanga Sub County had 75 village registrars.

But Godfrey Mugisa, the Masindi district NRM Registrar says that the registrars worked for 35,000 Shillings. He says all hired persons were advanced Shillings 20, 000 at the beginning of the exercise and only received the 15, 000 Shillings as the last installment.

Although registrars admit receiving 20,000 Shillings as advance payment, they claim that it was given to them as facilitation for their transport and lunch.

Wilson Byeitima, the acting NRM Administrative Secretary for Masindi says there was a communication gap between the village registrars and the district NRM office, which failed to declare the amount of money each person would be paid, before they started the job.
