Mercy Walukamba, one of the five contestants for the Bugweri Woman NRM parliamentary ticket has withdrawn from the primaries citing irregularities by the party leadership.

Walukamba was nominated together with Amina Mutesi, Rose Birabwa, Rachel Magoola and Monica Musubika last week for the NRM primaries for the newly created Bugweri district scheduled for August 14th, 2018.

However, Walukamba has withdrawn from the primaries, citing irregularities in the registration of the voters in the yellow book. "The problems started way back during voter registration when nonresidents were being registered but the NRM leadership in our district has paid a deaf ear ever since and I am not willing to participate in such elections," Walukamba told journalist this morning in Busesa town council.

He faults the NRM leadership in the newly created district for favoring some candidates at the expense of others. "The problem is facing is that, when some candidates lodge in complaints our leaders work on them very fast but for my case, none of my concerns has been addressed despite the efforts I have put in to build the party," Walukamba said.

Sam Ibinga, the Bugweri District NRM Chairperson, has confirmed Walukamba's withdrawal from the race. "We have been handling campaigns peacefully until yesterday when i came across Walukamba's letter asking the NRM electoral commission to allow her quit the race over said irregularities which she has never raised to us," Ibinga said.

According to Ibinga, none of the other candidates has raised any complaint.
