Masindi Municipality MP Hands Over UGX 20m to COVID-19 Task Force

The shillings 20 Million was allocated to each member of parliament in the country recently by parliament to facilitate them supervise anti-COVID-19 activities.

Ernest Kiiza, the State Minister for Bunyoro Affairs and Member of Parliament Masindi Municipality has donated 20 million shillings to Masindi District COVID-19 Taskforce.

The money was part of the 10 billion shillings that was distributed to Members of Parliament as facilitation for activities on the control of COVID-19. The allocation triggered public outrage.

In his address to the country on Tuesday President Museveni said that he agreed with the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga that the MPs should not spend the money, but donate it to the district taskforce where they come from.

Ernest Kiiza, the Bunyoro Affairs Minister says he has been compelled to hand over the money Taskforce.

Kiiza, however, tasked the task force to appropriately use the money to benefit the vulnerable people in the district.

Receiving the money on behalf of the COVID-19 Taskforce on Thursday, Peter Yiga Mukasa, the Chief Administrative Officer said that the funds will be out to good use.

On Wednesday, the High Court ordered MPs to return the 20 million shillings. According to the court orders, the funds are to be returned to the Parliamentary Commission account, the National Covid-19 taskforce or the District Covid-19 taskforces.
