The Minister for Luwero Triangle and Busiro North MP Dennis Galabuzi Ssozi has handed over the Shs20m given to all MPs by Parliament to Wakiso district COVID-19 taskforce to help in running its activities.

Galabuzi says that the money will help Wakiso district COVID -19 taskforce cover some of its needs like buying gloves, masks and other personal protective equipment which they have been demanding from government.

Parliament handed over Shs10b to members of Parliament with each receiving Shs20m as facilitation to sensitise their constituents about the Coronavirus.

Whereas some legislators have challenged parliament in court and others vowed to reject the money, there is a section of members who decided to use it to buy food which they have since distributed to their people in their constituents during this lockdown.

The Resident District Commissioner, Rose Kirabira Nalongo and the deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Jude Mark Bukenya received the money together with 5 tonnes of maize flour also donated by the minister.

Galabuzi says that returning the money to Parliament would not make any sense when his mother district taskforce is lacking essentials like the personal protective equipment to protect health workers against catching the disease. He said the money will also be used to buy fuel to use in the COVID -19 related activities in Wakiso.

Earlier last week, Wakiso district COVID -19 taskforce resolved to petition government over the Shs165m given to all districts at a standard rate saying that this was not logical given the fact that in addition to having the biggest population apart from Kampala City, there are some districts which have never had any experience about the disease yet Wakiso registered more victims.

According to the district health officer, Dr. Matthias Lugoloobi, the number of personal protective equipment the district has so far received from government can not sustain the medical team for even two days in case they received a serious case to look after.
