State Minister for Northern Uganda, Rebecca Amuge Otengo has directed the police chief in Kole district to arrest a man, who allegedly defiled and impregnated a 16-year-old girl.

At the time of the incident, the girl was a senior one student at Buluge Secondary school.

The Minister was on Wednesday on a tour to monitor projects under Peace, Recovery and Development Plan (PRDP) in Kole district. While at Akalo Health Centre Three, she was stunned when she found a 16 year old girl lining up with other pregnant mothers who had gone for antenatal care at the unit.

Otengo had gone to commission a staff house constructed at the unit under the PRDP project.

The girl told the minister that her boy friend was a senior six student of Excel Secondary School in Masindi, identified as Amute Isaac. She explained that the boy, believed to be 25 years, is on the run.

Minister Otengo directed that the health workers at the unit properly attend to the poor girl, adding that Kole district police commander should take action and ensure that the culprit is apprehended.

At Okole Health Centre Two in Ayer Sub County, Otengo found at least seven pregnant mothers, who had gone for delivery sleeping on the floor. The unit, constructed under PRDP at the cost of 64 million shillings, lacks hospital beds.

Peter Ocen Akalo, the district chairman said the PRDP projects have helped the district especially in the improvement of roads networks, construction of staff houses both at the health centers and primary schools.

He appealed to the office of the prime minister to consider giving more funding to the district so that they can catch up with the other regions in terms of development.
